Struktura ljudske kose

Kosu čine tanke, fleksibilne vlasi, debljine oko 0,1 mm koje odlikuje velika čvrstoća i elastičnost.  Dlaka je deo kose koji je vidljiv spolja, tj. ono što generalno nazivamo „kosom“.

Lojna žlezda luči sebum koji oblaže vlas kose, čime je štiti od spoljašnjih uticaja i daje joj sjaj.

Folikul dlake je cevasto ispupčenje unutar kože i mesto je formiranja dlake. Unutar folikula nalazi se korenski luk dlake u kome se odvija intenzivna mitotska aktivnost. Novonastale ćelije potiskuju stare prema površini kože, pri čemu prolaze kroz procese diferencijacije i keratinizacije. Ovaj kontinutirani ciklus je u osnovi mehanizma rasta dlake.

Da bi rast dlake bio moguć, neophodno je nesmetano snabdevanje folikula potrebnim hranljivim materijama.
